Our Practice

Nommo House is rooted in the belief that creativity is a shared language—one that builds connection, holds memory, and opens new ways of seeing.

Through exhibitions and community-driven programming, we create space for artists and audiences to come into dialogue.

What We Build From

  • Nommo House approaches exhibition-making as a form of infrastructure.

We create space for artists to present work, test ideas, and connect with audiences beyond traditional gatekeeping structures. Our exhibitions are flexible and responsive—shaped by the artists, the space, and the community around them.

We prioritize access, clarity, and intention in how work is presented and experienced.

  • Access, community, equity, experimentation, and care shape the way we work. They guide how we build, how we gather, and how we create space. These are not just words—they are the foundation of everything we build.

  • Nommo House takes its name from Nommo —a concept from Dogon cosmology meaning the generative power of the spoken word, the ability to give form to ideas.

Founded in Washington, DC, Nommo House is a gallery and gathering space dedicated to the collective practice of art, design, and dialogue.
